One minute your playing for England alongside Michael Owen at 16 years old, the next you're working on a building site.
Our guest on the Fit Dads Podcast this week is Luke Staton. Speaker, coach, author and ex-professional footballer, who as a youngest signed one of the most elite professional contracts in the country at the time.
He played in the Champions League, sharing the pitch with the likes of Deco in front of 68,000 fans. Travelling the world pursuing the sport he loved and adored, and being paid handsomely for it.
Fast forward 6 years and he's working on the building site, living back with his mum and dad, in the same bedroom he grew up in, wondering how he ended up back there.
Personally these are my favourite types of stories and as Luke began telling us about his journey to where he is today, I was instantly hooked.
I like hearing about success, but what I love even more is hearing how you came back from some of the darkest moments in your life.
When all the chips were down, when your confidence was rock bottom, when everyone around you has disappeared, how did you find the mental strength to pull yourself back out?
Our conversation with Luke was the epitome of this. The extreme highs and lowest of lows of life during and after professional football.
Today he gives talks all over the world from massive corporations, to local schools to one of my favourites, which is his TEDx Talk. Can't reccomend this one enough, watch here... Luke's TEDx Talk.
Luke is now on a mission to help others unlock their full potential/purpose and his book Credo is helping both adults and youngsters realise theirs,
He opens up about other pivotal moments that change the direction of his life, as well as some inspiring stories told by audience members during his talks.
(Wait till you hear the one from a 92 year old war veteran, incredible!)
We dive deep into how to reconnect with your inner child, why belief is the bedrock of personal growth, and how parents can nurture that same spark in their own children.
If you’re a parent, teacher, or someone who just wants to live with more intention this one will leave you reflecting, re-energised and ready to take action.
Expect goosebumps, reflection, and the kind of insight that’ll have you questioning what you truly believe in.
