On this episode, we have a BIG guest…..no seriously, he’s MASSIVE!
Mike Tuck is one of the most recognisable figures in British Basketball. After growing up across the Atlantic, he found himself becoming a true Sheffield-er with the Sheffield Sharks Basketball Team.
Brad and I chat with Mike about why not just “a tall guy who played,” but how he became one of the pillars of modern British basketball culture.
He describes what it was like growing up in Canada, moving to the US on a basketball scholarship and eventually playing in several leagues around the world. Including Cyprus, Luxembourg, France and eventually settling in the UK.
Mike professional career saw him captain the Sheffield Sharks for 11 out of the 13 seasons he was there. Over 500 games and their all time longest serving player.
Mike definitely has more strings to his bow than we anticipated. One of my favourite parts of the conversation was his TV and movie appearances.
'Love Triangle' was a channel 4 show Mike was asked to appear on. It sounds as hectic as the name suggests. But Mike recounts some fonds memories and admits he made friends for life.
He also starred in a movie! I won't give too much away but let's just say the director was so impressed, they ended up giving him more lines than expected.
Plus, we’ll discuss life after his 15 year playing career, his media presence and how we can introduce young children to basketball.
Follow Mike on Instagram @miketuck15 or if you’ve been inspired to check out a basketball game, check out the Sheffield Sharks.
